The mission of Austin Zoo is to assist animals in need through rescue, rehabilitation and education. Located on the southwest edge of Austin off of Highway 290 West and Circle Drive, Austin Zoo is a pleasant Hill Country zoo where visitors from around the world can come to learn about animals close-up, spend some time outdoors getting exercise and have fun.
Austin Aquarium provides children and families access to the excitement and learning opportunities of the ocean without the long trip to the coast. Austin Bouldering Project
At 50,000 square feet with 250 rotating configurations, Austin Bouldering Project is the world’s largest bouldering gym. The facility also houses a yoga studio and over 5,000 square feet of open fitness space. Visitors can buy memberships or day passes, rent equipment, take classes and even rent the space for private events.
Order a sandwich at a century-old grocery store
Hyde Park gets even weirder just a few blocks from the Elisabet Ney Museum. Smack dab in the middle of a block of houses on 44th St, you’ll stumble upon another anachronism: Austin’s oldest delicatessen and grocery store. The Avenue B Grocery & Market has been slicing up fresh deli meat for Hyde Park residents since 1909. You’ll find the owner Ross behind the counter, the daily special written up on the chalkboard, and patrons lounging on the front porch munching on their groceries.
